Cairn of Mourning

For endangered species.

The UK has lost almost half of its biodiversity since the 1970s

The Red List

Red lists are a globally recognised way of identifying the threat of extinction to species, using the internationally accepted Red List guidelines developed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) (IUCN 2012a2012bIUCN Standards and Petitions Subcommittee 2019).  Red list assessments are objective and based on scientific information and ongoing research.

The Cairn of Mourning

Knowing the depth of our sorrow is knowing the depth of our belonging. Which part of the natural world or species have you cherished and lost, or is disappearing?

Choose a stone symbolising this (from the pile of stones nearby) and either take it away and paint it, or place it on the cairn in the centre.

Eco Activist Art

Eco Activist Art draws attention, using a variety of creative media, to the Ecological Emergency that is rapidly depleting biodiversity, accelerating the climate crisis, and putting our very existence as a human species (as well as the others that we share this amazing planet with) in jeopardy.

Get Involved

We are a growing movement of people in arts and culture declaring a climate and ecological emergency. We pledge to tell truths, take action and seek justice. Arts and culture can lead in creating a regenerative future that protects the planet and sustains everyone, everywhere.

By declaring you support our shared Vision, Mission and Values and will be added as a Declarer on the Culture Declares Emergency (CDE) website. Apart from this, the journey you take is up to you. When announcing your Declaration, and beyond, you can use our Culture Declares kitemark on any of your material.
